biography

Daniel Sparrow is an Olivier Award winning West End producer, and has produced plays and musicals in London, the UK, Sydney and on Broadway.

 

London based, but originally Australian, Daniel developed and produced the award-winning West End stage adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s All About My Mother at The Old Vic (co-production with The Old Vic and Neal Street) in 2007 starring Dame Diana Rigg, Lesley Manville, Mark Gatiss, Colin Morgan and Joanne Froggat.  There has since been 23 different productions in 18 different languages internationally and is currently playing in Prague, Athens, Tel Aviv and Puerto Rico, with productions due to open in Brazil, Croatia and New Zealand.

 

Subsequent West End productions include Three Days of Rain, starring James McAvoy, Holding the Man starring Jane Turner (from ‘Kath and Kim’), Michel Legrand’s ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg’ directed by Emma Rice, in collaboration with Kneehigh Theatre, the Olivier Award winning Sweeney Todd starring Michael Ball, Stiles and Drewe’s new musical Soho Cinders, the recent Palladium revival of A Chorus Line and on Broadway, Exit the King, starring Geoffrey Rush and Susan Sarandon.

 

In late 2015, he produced the Sydney premiere of David Williamson's hit play "RUPERT" charting the life of media mogul Rupert Murdoch, starring Oscar nominated multi Emmy-award winning actor James Cromwell ("Babe", "LA Confidential", "Six Feet Under") as Murdoch and Australian tv comedy icon Jane Turner (Kath from "Kath and Kim") as Margaret Thatcher.   Plans to bring the play to the UK and beyond are underway.

 

Prior to becoming an independent producer, upon moving to London, Daniel cut his teeth working with one of London's most respected and experienced General Managers, Andrew Treagus for 8.5 years, working on numerous plays, musicals and workshops, including Mamma Mia!, Jersey Boys, Billy Elliot, The Lady in the Van starring Maggie Smith, The Caretaker starring Michael Gambon, and The Breath of Life starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith.

 

Prior to moving to the UK, Daniel worked as a Ticketing and Production Assistant on the Australian production of Disney's Beauty and the Beast and Sisterella, executive produced by Michael Jackson.  His first job was working for Koan Advertising, assisting on the marketing and advertising accounts for the Australian productions of The Phantom of the Opera, Miss Saigon and Sunset Boulevard and the Asian tour of Les Miserables.

 

Daniel has a degree in International Business Relations from Brisbane's Griffith University and a Diploma in Cross Cultural Communication.
