Based on the iconic 1983 film that inspired a generation, the stage adaptation of FLASHDANCE features 5 of the original hit songs - "Maniac", "Gloria", "I Love Rock'n'Roll", "Manhunt" and the Academy Award winning song - "Flashdance... What a Feeling!".
With electrifying dance at its core, FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL tells the inspiring and unforgettable story of 18-year-old Alex Owens, a Pittsburgh steel mill welder by day and a bar dancer by night with dreams of one day becoming a professional dancer. When romance with her steel mill boss threatens to complicate her ambitions, Alex learns the meaning of love and its power to fuel the pursuit of her dream.
In addition to the hits, 16 brand new songs have been written for the musical with music by Robbie Roth and lyrics by Robert Cary and Robbie Roth. FLASHDANCE-THE MUSICAL features a book by Tom Hedley (co-writer of the original screenplay), and Robert Cary.
The film grossed over $200 million internationally and went on to inspire countless dance themed movies, such as Footloose and Dirty Dancing, to Billy Elliot, and to this day remains an iconic film for the generation that grew up in the 80's - which makes for an indeal target audience for the stage show.
The musical has not been seen in Australiasia, which would make this production be the premiere of the title in these territories.
